PTFE/Teflon
This white, waxy-feeling industrial plastic is polytetrafluoroethylene, a material with non-stick properties that can’t be matched by any other plastic. It is virtually inert and possesses many useful electrical and mechanical properties.
Besides being used in liquid form for spray coatings, ptfe can be moulded into solid rods and sheets for machining into finished parts.
As well as having the lowest co-efficient of friction of any solid (0.05-0.08), ptfe has an upper temperature limit of 260°C and is almost totally unaffected by commonly-used commercial chemicals.
Various fillers can be added to improve performance, the most common of these being glass fibre, carbon and bronze.
Temperature range: -260ºC to +260ºC.
